As sappy as it may be, my political philosophy is no different than Walt Disney's Mission statement "To Make People Happy." Whenever I hear a politician propose a policy, I wonder whether that policy will make the people happy. So what does this “happiness” entail? Happiness means having a roof over your head. It means having enough food on your plate every night. It means living in a safe neighborhood and being able to attend a good school. It is about having opportunities to become a better citizen and improve the world for those who inherit it after you. My political philosophy is very compatible with the Democratic Party's ideals and stances. We are the party of the people, the party that stands up for the “the little guy.” We expect fairness, competency and compassion from our government and our citizens. We are open-minded, and solve our nation’s problems practically. We are the party that brought social security, ended segregation and rigorously fought against unjust wars like Vietnam and Iraq. DemGop is my way of exposing you to my liberal brain. I write and refer articles that are often ignored or not talked about in the mainstream media. As you will see, I have an ingrained belief that limitless capitalism and corporate greed are at the very heart of every social injustice in our country. I welcome you to my site. I hope you enjoy!

RFK Tribute

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Rather than summarize Kennedy's lengthy and impressive accomplishments as a Senator and Attorney General, I will instead focus on a quality he had that has become lost in American politics today. That quality, is courage.

The title of this piece is not a forewarning to make sure you wear your seatbelt. It is instead, what I believe will decisively narrate the 2008 election showdown between Barack Obama and John McCain. Confused? Let me explain.

Statue of Liberty freedom

Libertarians are one party in politics I have trouble understanding. The basic precept of this dogma is a ferocious and unyielding belief that we are born with certain irrevocable rights. As peachy as that may sound, it is often impractical and certainly contradictory on many levels. Let us begin to explore what I call "The Ultimate Hoax."

Fighting the Smear

Once upon a time, people picked their presidents based on the issues they stood for. Elections were fought not with big money, but with eloquence and debating prestige. The Lincoln-Douglas debates. The Kennedy-Nixon. Those were the days when money had not yet fully corrupted the political system. Discourse meant something, and if often was the decisive factor in who became the next president. Today, modern elections are fought dishonestly, dishonorably, and mind-numbingly irrelevant with regards to what really matters in the lives of our people.
